The Philosophy of the Arts course is designed to introduce the students to analyzing and thinking about the arts, and learning to approach the arts academically. The course aims to develop fundamental concepts and ideas of art such as aesthetics, institutionalization/commercialization, different traditions and approaches to art. The purpose of the course is to expose students to a broad spectrum of the arts — reading, analyzing, interpreting and appreciating the arts. Students will be required to critically think, engage and apply theoretical approaches in their analyses of art.

PHILOSOPHY OF THE ARTS

The general objective of this course is to expose students to script radio drama production techniques. The course will guide them through the systematic production of various categories of drama and provide them with ample knowledge of different methods of producing three types of script radio drama. At the end of the course, students are expected to be able to produce different types of script radio drama. They will essentially be guided on the operational techniques for script writing and recording and how to produce radio drama. Emphasis will also be placed on special problems involved in producing drama such as casting, budgeting, research and performance (proposal).

SCRIPT DRAMA RADIO

This course is designed in two parts that is poetry writing and lyric writing. Students will be exposed to the various principles of poetry and lyric writing. The course emphasizes the aspects of writing style and rhetoric of poetry and lyric writing, as well as the technique, know how to choose the most appropriate theme and form for a poetry/lyric. Students are required to develop, study and evaluate own writing piece uncovering the strengths and weaknesses in great detail. Conversely, students are also required to analyze and evaluate renowned foreign/local poetries/lyrics in order for them to better understand the principles of poetry and lyric writing. The content of the course will highlight introduction to poetry writing, types and forms of poetry, sound, sense device, lyric study, introduction to lyric writing, foreign lyrics and the process of lyric writing.

POETRY AND LYRICS WRITING

This course introduces students from idea conceptualization to script writing. This course provides students with the understanding about the art and craft of storytelling in order for student to apply the key principles in creating script in different creative works. Students are allowed to choose genre from the three sections which are; Narrative writing, Dramatic/TV writing, Non-fiction writing. Students are exposed to a theory and practice of writing. Each student’s work will be discussed and commented in several workshop sessions. At the end of semester, students must present 1 (one) from the selected genre. With all the knowledge, students are expected to enhance their capability to perform as a competent creative industry writer.
